"Traffic stop from hell."
Officer Victor Zimmerman

"Death from Above" is a Traffic street crime case in L.A. Noire.

Situation[]

LAPD Detectives Cole Phelps and Stefan Bekowsky answer an urgent radio message via KGPL concerning a shootout in progress at the corner of Shatto and Valencia St. in Wilshire. On the scene, they are briefed by Officer Victor Zimmerman, who explains that a "prowler unit" pulled over a car with out-of-state license plates, only to find the trunk being used to smuggle illegal guns. The four occupants overpowered Officer Sam Kaplan and took him up to the nearby rooftop, using several weapons from their stash to fire on the police attempting to rescue Kaplan.

Dispatch Call Script[]

Dispatch: All units, shots fired, officer needs help, Shatto and Valencia, Shatto and Valencia. Shots fired, officer needs help. Unit to handle, Code Three, identify.

Cole Phelps: Car 11K, we'll handle the help call. Go ahead, KGPL.

Dispatch: 11K, shots fired, officer needs help, Shatto and Valencia. Shatto and Valencia. 11K handle Code Three, all other units Code Two.

Walkthrough[]

There are three shooters, two of whom are armed with submachine guns while the third shooter has a semi-automatic rifle. Shotguns are not a good choice here, since they're mostly for medium range, though on the roof of the building to the left there is sometimes an officer using a M1 Garand. If you reach the roof of that building, the officer will be wounded, and you will be able to use the rifle.

After using the gun of your choice to kill the three shooters from cover (although you may find it easier to work your way up to the rooftop and shoot them at close range), ascend the building via its drainpipe to find a fourth crook holding Officer Kaplan hostage with his own service weapon.

Once the hostage-taker is killed, the case will end. If you climb the drainpipe before Bekowsky and the rest of the officers cease fire and before the three shooters are slain, you can prevent the human-shield part by killing the gunman wearing a vest (the one who you see during the beginning of the cutscene) before he uses the officer and makes this street crime more difficult to resolve.

Trivia[]

  • One of the shooters (the man who holds Officer Kaplan at gunpoint) is played by the same actor who portrayed Errol Schroeder.
