James Jessop is a character in L.A. Noire. He is a person of interest in The White Shoe Slaying case.

Biography[]

Background[]

Jessop is a U.S. Navy Boatswain's Mate Third Class who served abroad the USS Indiana. While on shore leave in Los Angeles, Jessop went to Baron's Bar where he caught interest in Theresa Taraldsen along with Richard Bates. Jessop and Bates got into a quick feud in order to win Theresa's favor. Their fight ended with Jessop beating Bates convincingly, knocking him out. Jessop quickly entered a cab with Theresa.

They went to the Crystal Ballroom for dancing and drinking. Jessop's intention was to seduce Theresa. However, she held off his advances and was too drunk and depressed over her argument with her husband. Dejected, Jessop and Theresa caught a bus. Theresa got off near a hobo camp and Jessop returned to San Pedro.

Events of L.A. Noire[]

After hearing on the radio the news of Theresa's murder, Jessop instantly knew he would be suspected. With permission for leave from his commanding officer, Jessop turned himself to the LAPD. Jessop was questioned by Detectives Cole Phelps and Rusty Galloway. After giving his account of events with Theresa, he was briefly detained in a cell. The detectives investigation ended with the arrest of Stuart Ackerman. Jessop was released and returned to naval service abroad the Indiana while Ackerman was charged with the murder. However, the real killer was later discovered.

  • For the "Cab ride with victim" question, if you accuse Jessop of lying without evidence, he will say he has never struck a woman in his life, but has done a few things he is ashamed of.
  • It should be noted that Jessop had no idea he was being interviewed by a once-Marine Officer.
